Lithuania Post Acquired the Company Baltic Post

Jun 12, 2012

The Public Limited Company Lietuvos paštas, which is expanding its activities and strengthening position in the market, has acquired the company Baltic Post running the self-service parcel terminal SIUNTOS24.

Rimvydas Vaštakas, Chairman of the Board of Lithuania Post, said:

“One of the main strategic goals that must be achieved by Lithuania Post before the full market opening in the year 2013 is to reinforce its position in the postal and courier market of Lithuania. The acquisition of the company Baltic Post is one of many projects that are going to be implemented by Lithuania Post in the course of the current year”.

Lina Minderienė, CEO of Lithuania Post, said:

“The decision has been taken considering Lithuania Post’s aim to strengthen its position in the area of item delivery. With a possibility to manage both the instalment of terminals and delivery process we will ensure a higher quality of service level”.

After several years delivery and collection of parcels through self-service terminals may be one of the most popular and profitable postal services; therefore acquisition of Baltic Post is strategically important.

According to Ms Minderienė, Lithuania Post is the only company in the country offering its customers such a wide choice of delivery options. Postal items can be sent and collected in more than 700 post offices, calling a courier in any Lithuanian city, or using self-service terminals operating twenty-four hours a day.

Domas Sabaitis, who used to carry out managing functions in Postal Operations Division of Lithuania Post, was assigned as a new director of Baltic Post. He said:

“After the acquisition of the company Baltic Post, Lithuania Post will further expand the network of parcel terminals. In a short time we are going to install several new terminals and offer more flexible conditions for sending postal items both domestically and internationally”.

At present, the company Baltic Post runs a network of 60 parcel terminals installed in 34 Lithuanian cities and towns. 11 more terminals are on their way to be installed in 9 localities. The self-service parcel terminals SIUNTOS24 are installed at the largest shopping centres, gas stations, and post offices.

Up-to-date technologies implemented in the terminals enable to have information on items stored in the terminals transferred to couriers. This ensures fast and quality delivery of items to intended addressees.

Up to now, the network of self-service parcel terminals SIUNTOS24 has been run by the company Baltic Post managed by the company Kautra in cooperation with Lithuania Post.
