Payment of compensation

The sender can file a claim with AB Lietuvos paštas regarding lost postal items, lost, missing, or damaged contents within a period of 6 months of the posting date.

Compensation for lost or damaged postal items (from the moment of their admission until handing in to the addressee) is paid following the Postal Law of the Republic of Lithuania, the provisions of the Universal Postal Convention, Letter Post and Parcel Post Regulations as well as procedures set forth in international agreements and contracts with customers:

  1. For a lost, rifled, or damaged domestic registered letter-post item or ordinary postal parcel – by an amount equal to posting expenses. If a postal item is partially rifled or damaged, the sender is entitled to an indemnity corresponding to the actual value of the damage, which may not exceed the value of the postal item.
  2. For a lost, rifled or damaged domestic insured postal item – by an amount equal to posting expenses plus insured value. For some of the contents lost or damaged in such an item – by an amount equal to the value of the articles lost or damaged, which may not exceed the total value of the postal item.
  3. Where a provider of postal services through its fault returns to the sender a domestic registered or insured letter-post item or postal parcel, the provider shall reimburse the sender for posting expenses.
  4. For a lost, totally rifled or damaged international registered postal item – by SDR 30 (the currency of IMF); for a registered bag M – SDR 150. The total amount of payable compensation is calculated by adding these amounts and taxes paid, except for registration charge. In case of a partially rifled or damaged international registered item, the sender is entitled to an indemnity corresponding to the actual value of the damage, which may not exceed the amount stated above.
  5. For a lost, totally rifled or damaged international ordinary parcel, Express item, or EPG parcel the compensation may not exceed the sum of: compensation rate of SDR 40 for an ordinary parcel plus SDR 4.50 per kilo and plus posting expenses. For some of the contents rifled or damaged in such an item, the compensation will correspond to the actual value of the damage, which may not exceed the amounts stated above. For return of such items, with no grounded reason indicated, the sender will receive a compensation equal to the amount of charges paid when posting the item and expenses related with return of the item from the destination country (if any).
  6. For a lost, totally rifled or damaged international insured item – by an amount equal to insured value and posting expenses except for insurance charge. For a partially rifled or damaged insured item – by an amount of the actual value of the damage, which may not exceed the insured value.
  7. For a returned international registered or insured letter-post item, with no reason for failure to deliver indicated, the sender is entitled to compensation equal to postage charges only.
  8. For a lost, rifled or damaged EMS item, the sender is paid compensation equal to the actual damaged incurred, which may not exceed SDR 30 for an EMS item containing documents and SDR 130 for an EMS item containing articles (goods) plus posting expenses.
  9. For a lost, rifled or damaged courier mail item the sender will be compensated following the procedures foreseen in the contract with the customer in the amount equal to the value of lost articles (goods), which may not exceed LTL 1 500 per item plus posting expenses.
