Lithuania Post to Release a Stamp for Postcrossing

Oct 31, 2013

Considering the growing number of postcrossing community members, Lithuania Post will release a postage stamp dedicated to this hobby. The new stamp named “Atvirlaiškių mainai” (Postcrossing) will be put into circulation on October 5, Saturday.

The stamp for international items has been designed by Laima Matuzonytė, schoolgirl. The stamp features different postcards. The nominal value of the stamp issued in the edition of 80 thousand copies is LTL 2.45.

Along with the stamp, the first day cover will be released. On Saturday in Vilnius Main Post Office postal correspondence paid by the new stamp will be marked by the first day cancellation.

Postcrossing is an international voluntary project aiming to encourage people to send handwritten postcards and receive them from any country in the world.

To join the project, one has to register on the website at www.postcrossing.com. For registered participants, the system automatically selects an address to send a postcard to. The system can select any registered participant from any country in the world. Once you send a postcard, you receive a postcard from another project participant. This is how the postcrossing works.

In the course of a year, Lithuania Post issues on average 25-30 postage stamps. Lithuania Post also provides courier, logistics, and financial intermediation services.
